Accident Investigation

This course is intended for people who are responsible for investigating accidents and incidents in the workplace.

The course will cover relevant financial, moral and legal requirements in relation to Accident Investigation including:

  • What should be reported to the enforcing authorities
  • Who should be involved
  • Understand the concept of 'Root Causes'
  • What you exactly need to investigate
  • How far you should go
  • Techniques to carry out basic interviews
  • Compile acceptable witness statements

The course will also cover how to reduce the risk of expensive litigation and criminal proceedings and establish the importance of correct methods of investigation.
By the end of the course delegates will have a good understanding of the basic accident investigation process. Delegates will be able to take the initiative in finding out what went wrong, why, and how to make sure it does not happen again.
This course is intended for people who are responsible for guiding or implementing their organisation's Risk Assessment Programme.

Risk Assessment

This is a 1 day course
The course will cover relevant issues such as:

  • The structure of legislation
  • Risk Assessment
  • Legal responsibilities
  • Health and Safety management
  • Preparation and maintenance of records

The course will also cover key legislation and other standards that employers are expected to comply with. Delegates will undertake practical assessments as part of the course, and the need to establish systems for successful Health and Safety management will be discussed.
At the conclusion of the course delegates will have a good understanding of their legal responsibilities and those placed upon the employer. Delegates will be fully briefed in the requirement to undertake risk assessment to aid the formulation and implementation of effective Health and Safety procedures within the organisation.

Manual Handling

Half Day Course

This course will give participants a basic understanding of the factors necessary to ensure their own safety and that of the colleagues and staff they supervise.
As this course is very interactive it is advised that delegates are reasonably fit and able to take part in the majority of practical handling activities and wear appropriate clothing.
The course is based upon the principles of safe moving and handling of loads known as the neuromuscular approach to Manual Handling, and includes the following:

  • How to think and assess
  • Safety procedures
  • Avoiding unnecessary lifting
  • Risk Assessment
  • Practical exercises

At the conclusion of the course delegates will have an understanding of safe handling principles and possess the necessary skills to avoid the dangers of careless and unskilled manual handling.
Certificates will be issued to participants who attend the entire course and satisfactorily demonstrate that they are able to follow the principles taught on the course.

Office Safety

This course is intended for managers and supervisors who need to know and understand their statutory responsibilities for the Health and Safety of their employees and others who may be affected by the work activity.
The course will cover relevant issues likely to affect office workers such as:

  • Accident prevention
  • Risk assessment
  • Manual handling
  • Safety of equipment/machines
  • Electrical safety
  • Fire precautions
  • First Aid
  • Display screen equipment

The course will also cover key legislation and other standards that employers are expected to comply with and the need to establish systems for successful Health and Safety management will be discussed.
At the conclusion of the course delegates will have a good understanding of their legal responsibilities and those placed upon the employer. Delegates will be fully briefed in the requirements of major safety legislation and standards, and will understand the need to formulate and implement effective Health and Safety procedures within their organisation

Fire Safety Awareness

This 5 hour course covers the basics that every employee is required to know by law, including the action to be taken in the event of a fire and fire prevention.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  1. State their role in dealing with a Fire Emergency Situation. 
  2. Identify fire safety hazards in their workplace.
  3. State how fires can be prevented in their workplace.
  4. Select and safely use appropriate fire fighting equipment. 
  5. State their individual responsibility in the workplace fire evacuation procedure. 

Course Content

  1. Fire Prevention
    • The Fire Triangle.
    • Identify fire hazards and potential hazards in the workplace and corrective action required to make area safe.
    • Identify differences in fire fighting equipment.
    • Fire extinguisher symbols 
    • Contents of extinguishers.
    • Match correct equipment to type of fire. 
    • To fight or not to fight.
  2. Fire Evacuation
    • Action to take when you discover a fire.
    • Action to take when you hear the fire alarm.
    • Calling the emergency services.
    • Do's and Don'ts during fire evacuation
    • The Assembly Point. 
    • Assisting the Fire Brigade and what information they require.
    • Contingency plans - should all or part of the workplace become out of bounds
